There are some wonderfully deep truths in this song by The Submarines, and they have nothing to do with buying an iphone:

Everyday we wake up
We choose Love
We choose light
And we try, it’s too easy just to fall apart

Love can free us from all excess
From our deepest debts
Cause when our hearts are full we need much less

(my online shopping urges need to take note)

So I know this is supposed to be a blog about living my life like it’s golden in the Golden State, but bear with me as I post a love song to one of my home states, the Great Lone Star State.

I finally saw Away We Go tonight. Precious. Hilarious. Obnoxious. I loved every minute of it. In other words, I highly recommend it.

I’ve already downloaded the soundtrack; it’s totally up my alley. “In your love, my salvation lies…in your love…”

OK, I like Lady A’s songs A LOT, but their videos (see links below) couldn’t be more mismatched; they’re totally unrelated to the lyrics of the songs. Case in point: Lookin for a Good Time. Completely mismatched in style and theme. This is country music, not the Beatles. Pop/country, but country nonetheless. When I picture that song, I picture a country bar, or something outdoors that’s really kick back and fun. Someone fire their Producer/conceptual director, please.

Just Lookin for a Good Time

I Run To You (I’m still convinced they are singing this to God; watch the video)

Love Don’t Live Here Anymore

My mom is seeing Josh Turner & Alan Jackson tomorrow night. Jealous!

Here’s my fav Josh Turner song/music vid:

SO. HAWT. I love his sexy deep voice, and this video makes me swoon.

Here’s my most recent fav Alan Jackson song, because this is a real line dance that was created JUST for this song and video!

And I already have a summer of concerts lined up. In July I’m seeing Keith Urban, Counting Crows w/ Augustana, and the Coffeehouse Singer/songwriter Show. Me = excited? Um, YES.

I like ’em thick and red-lettered…

Thanks, Sheli!

Keith’s newest single is a MASSIVE disappointment:

Chorus:

I wanna kiss a girl,
I wanna hold her tight,
And maybe make a little magic in the moonlight.
Don’t wanna go too far
Just to take it slow,
But I shouldn’t be lonely in this big ol’ world.
I wanna kiss a girl.

LAME. Cliched. Unoriginal. I wasn’t too fond of “Stupid Boy,” but THIS…this is ten times worse. Possibly the worst Keith Urban song ever.

I had big expectations, and Keith let me down.

Here’s hoping this failure of a single isn’t an accurate representation of his new album, Gravity.

Usually I’m not a fan of turning pop radio love songs into worship songs. The idea just screams “SNL church lady.” But, at the risk of sounding cheesy, I REALLY wish this Lady Antebellum song was a worship song.  It makes much more sense that this song be directed toward God, and it’s very sing-able (which is good for corporate worship).

I’m posting my version of the lyrics, which is only slightly modified from the original. The word “baby” could be replaced with Jesus, but I’d be just as happy if “baby” word was omitted all-together. In my heart, I sing this song as a worship song.

I run from hate
I run from prejudice
I run from pessimists
But I run too late
I run my life
Or is it running me
Run from my past
I run too fast
Or too slow it seems
When lies become the truth
That’s when I run to you

Chorus
This world keeps spinning faster
Into a new disaster so I run to you
I run to you [Jesus]
And when it all starts coming undone
You’re the only one I run to
I run to you

We run on fumes
Your life and mine
Like the sands of time
Slippin’ right on through
And your love’s the only truth
That’s why I run to you

Get ready, friends. The US AIR GUITAR COMPETITION is coming your way soon. Their mission is to “take our nation’s unofficial pastime out of the bedroom and put it up on the world stage.” Pure comedy.

My friends and I watched the Air Guitar Nation documentary on New Year’s Eve (after rockin out on Guitar Hero, appropriately).  The contenders take their “craft” very seriously, which is why it’s so stinkin hilarious. We heckled and cracked up the whole time.

The 2009 US Championship is a 25-city tour, and it comes to LA on June 19th. Wanna go? You know you do! Tickets go on sale TOMORROW!

Here’s to fakin it ’til you make it, friends.

Wow. What a beautiful picture of love, and the way the body of Christ supports each other. This resonates with my experience, and if you are reading this, you have probably been one of those people to me. Thank you for loving me!

Happy Valentine’s Day. May you experience the profound love of God today, and everyday.
